Thank you again for having me on the show. My question is simple, Did Jason ever try our the method of rotating the Easy Wood round cutter to a 45 degree angle and if so, what were his results?
Hey Turners, Today you were talking about BLO and CA finish. I have done this a number of times and it works great. I learned this from Russ Fairfield and his videos on you tube. The BLO acts as an accelerator for the CA so you do not need to wait for the BLO to dry it will dry and make the CA cure quickly. He also uses a paper bag to shine the CA finish as the final step. Check out Russ’s video and pass this info on to other turners. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR47HH0JyMU
Thanks,
Ian
Hey Turners, So here is a follow up to my previous comment. This video from woodNWhimie says to not use BLO between coats of CA so it might be interesting to ask the audience what there experience has been. He explains that after a few years the layers start to flake off. So I guess the real answer is to give it a try and see what works for you. He is hte video an am referencing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjzXpD08ozw

In response to the question about getting a matte finish with CA. I’ve done it by applying a few coats of CA, sanding with 1000 grit to even out the coating , then using 0000 steel wool to get the matte finish. The crazy thing is that after carrying the pen for a few months the finish became glossy anyway.
